Fulton County… Nightly Lane Closures on I-285 at SR6/Camp Creek Pkwy for DDI Construction: Expect Traffic Delays
ATLANTA – Work crews for the Georgia Department of Transportation will implement overnight lane closures this week in conjunction with on-going construction of the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) project at I-285 and State Route 6/ Camp Creek Parkway in Fulton County.
Weather permitting, one left lane on I-285 northbound and southbound in proximity of the Camp Creek Parkway exit will be closed nightly, beginning 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16 until 5:00 a.m. each following morning. Crews will be installing signage on the median barrier walls on I-285 near the Camp Creek interchange; the closures will help ensure safety for drivers and workers in the area. Law enforcement will also on site to help alert drivers of the closures and workers and equipment in the roadway.
The signage being installed will provide advance notice of extended lane closures related the next phase of construction of the DDI. Weather permitting, crews are scheduled to begin demolition of part of the existing Camp Creek overpass bridge next week. The demolition will be followed by reconstructing and widening the bridge for the DDI configuration. Lane closures related to this work will be in place until spring.
Once complete, the I-285 at Camp Creek DDI will improve traffic flow and mobility, reduce traffic accidents and provide a distinctive gateway for the area. As always, motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds in the work zone. Motorists are also encouraged to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
